One business opportunity that you might stumble upon is the one that offers you eBook resale rights. When it comes to eBooks resale rights refer to the four different ways that an informational product can be resold.
Sometimes you will also here resale rights referred to as Public Label Rights. This means the copyright on the document has expired or that the document was specifically written for people to rewrite or use as they like. Buying a book with PLR rights is great because you can use it as a template to brand your own products with. These are the most customizable resellable eBooks that you can buy and you are allowed to brand the book with your affiliate links.
The most common type of resale rights that you will encounter are basic eBook resale rights. You can remarket the book and keep any money you make but you are not allowed to change edit or brand the book. However you are not allowed to let your customer resell the book for you (like an affiliate would.) The buck that is made in this case stops with you.
You can also buy master resale rights. With these types of Resale Rights you can sell the eBook to an end user and keep the profit, but you can also sell the resale rights using the typical tiered selling scheme you find with affiliate selling. This type of selling is a bit more complicated as you are dealing with two end users – the customer who will buy the book, the customer who will resell it (and of course the customer who will do both.)
There is a type of book that is offered on the Internet that is known as a Giveaway book. These books don’t have resale rights but you can give them free to customers to promote your site. Usually you can’t put your own name on books with giveaway rights. These are basically lures to get more clients.
Of course the above is just a rough guide to resale rights. What you can and cannot do with an eBook property can vary greatly from sale to sale so make sure you read the fine print. As this is an ever-changing business you will find all kinds of permutations in the rights contracts, especially when it comes inserting affiliate links or branding the book with your own company’s logo.
